Diaries of the Lynch family. 1882-1884.

Two diaries kept by Robert Lynch of the Lynch family touring company, recording the tour from Melbourne to Albany, W.A., 16 August 1882 to 28 May 1883, and in Ceylon, India, Burma, Penang, Singapore, Hong Kong and Batavia, 10 June 1883 to 2 October 1884. The touring company left Batavia for Australia, visiting Thursday Island, Cooktown, Townsville, Rockhampton, Brisbane, Gympie, then Charters Towers for the Show. A manuscript list of approximately 150 Australian and overseas towns mentioned in the diary has been added. The diaries give detailed descriptions of their shows, the local people, the ships they travelled in, and other forms of transport. Also included with the diaries is an undated poster, advertising the Lynch family bellringers.
